Rick Barnes backs a call from the Conservation Voters of BC to ban corporate and union contributions.

And he mentions something that gets very little notice in the media, but which desperately needs repeating: the Liberals “received 74% of their funds from corporations. The NDP received 14% from unions last year.”

So why is it that the Liberals nearly always get a pass from reporters when they repeat the myth that the NDP lives and dies on the whim of big labour? (In fairness, the CBC is kind enough to mention similar figures in their latest report.) Maybe it’s just that there’s a tidy sense of balance that comes from believing (and reporting) that the Liberals rely on business donations, and the NDP relies on union dinero. But guys, the facts say otherwise.

Expect the Liberals to campaign heavily on that myth, by the way. I was push-polled a few weeks back by their research firm, and one of the arguments they’re testing is that if Carole James gains power, the province will be in the hands of Jim Sinclair and his ilk.
