Sean Holman says “it seems like only yesterday“, but I can’t believe it’s only been two years since Public Eye Online hit the web.

Since then, Holman has faithfully chronicled behind-the-scenes political intrigue in Victoria. (Along the way, there’s been a short-lived dalliance with Canwest – one that involved a hiatus for PEO – and a much happier marriage with the 24 Hours crew.) Sometimes it’s petty infighting; sometimes it’s hamfisted attempts to manipulate the public or game the news. But it’s always riveting, and Holman has turned PEO into a must-read site for anyone interested in BC politics.

Holman’s site has given rise to a scrappy little online community that dukes it out in the comments after every post. And every once in a while, someone will post a gripe about his obvious political bias against whoever he’s just skewered. Those comments miss the much bigger picture. Holman has a bias, all right, but it’s toward openness, transparency – and a good story.

Happy birthday, Sean. And here’s to many more years of the unblinking Public Eye.
