See, the problem with campaigning as a saviour of the environment is that, sooner or later, you run into someone who’s actually seen it… in this case, Derek Miller:

George Drazenovic is the Conservative candidate in Burnaby-Douglas, the Canadian electoral riding I live in. […] The attached photo is a shot of George’s campaign flyer advertising his environmental awareness, and touting the potential for wind and tidal power on B.C.’s wild and beautiful Pacific Coast, with accompanying picture. One problem: the photo is of Haystack Rock, in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Which, as I have personally confirmed over several summers, is in the United States.

Tempting to rush to judgement, but wait. This might be the first faint glimmers of benign internationalism within the Conservative Party.

I’m not referring to the “Let’s send our boys to Iraq” internationalism of pre-2006 Stephen Harper (or the “Let’s not offer a word of support for Canada staying out of it” of pre-the-war-tanking-in-the-polls Paul Martin), but an honest desire to do good beyond our borders.

We might soon see Mr. Drazenovic – who has about as much chance of winning the race in Burnaby-Douglas as the mayor of Cannon Beach does – down in that seaside community, standing on the shore and saying, “Ich bin ein Haystack Rocker,” to the deafening cheers of the gulls and waves.
